A foreign company recently launched an innovative solar charging box for electric vehicles, a device that can charge electric vehicles both when driving and parked.

The charging box is designed to be similar to a roof luggage box, weighing about 32 kilograms and only 12.7 cm high, which is easy to install and does not increase the air resistance of the vehicle.

The top of the charging box is equipped with a 200-watt solar panel. Although the power provided is limited, when parked, the charging box can be unfolded to cover the roof and front and rear windshields, increasing the total output power of the solar panel to 1200 watts.

This design allows the vehicle to be charged directly by solar energy after connecting to the charging port. The company pointed out that the product can work stably in wind speeds below 50 kilometers per hour, and when closed, it can withstand speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

Although this charging box cannot compete with high-speed charging piles, it can add about 50 kilometers of range to electric vehicles every day under ideal conditions.

Under normal circumstances, an average of 16 to 32 kilometers of range can be added every day. Although the added range is limited, the charging box still has considerable practical value considering the simple charging process and the use of parking time.

For users with shorter daily commuting distances, it is completely feasible to rely on the solar charging box to meet daily charging needs.

In addition, the charging box also has a sunshade function, which helps to reduce the temperature inside the car and improve the energy efficiency of the vehicle.

However, the price of this charging box is relatively high, and the current pre-sale price is US$2,999, which is about RMB 21,566.

The company said that the product may be eligible for the US federal government's residential clean energy tax credit policy, but it needs to be included in the home energy system.

The company plans to start shipping this pre-assembled charging box in 2025, and users can complete the installation within 20 minutes.

The company emphasized that although the product is designed for long-term installation and use, it can also be easily disassembled when needed.
